Violeta Bulc, Member of the EC in charge of Transport, recently spoke at a briefing hosted by Septentrio Navigation, encouraging attendees to come together as a community to move the drone industry forward—an industry she expects to bring 150,000 jobs to Europe by 2050.
During the briefing, Bulc also talked about setting standards and regulations for drone use, and the importance of industry members proactively getting involved in the process. She’s looking forward to creating partnerships and learning from people already in the field, she said, noting regulations and standards should be driven by industry experience as well as civilians.
“This is a technology we need to understand and we need to actually take responsibility for,” she said. “It’s not about limiting it. It’s about using it in a responsible manner. We know there are the issues of security, privacy, safety and of course noise.”
She encouraged industry members to think like civilians as they develop this technology, and to work together as this industry continues to evolve.
“I’m looking forward to creating a little community where we can support each other and cooperate,” she said. “If we all work together we can really make this a successful sector.”
