ParaZero’s SafeAir autonomous parachute recovery systems will now be integrated into Speedbird Aero’s entire fleet of autonomous delivery drones, with Speedbird Aero recently signing a multi-phase integration deal with ParaZero.
The fleet is made up of three proprietary platforms, including a new VTOL and multirotor system, according to a news release.
ParaZero’s SafeAir is a high-performance drone safety system designed to mitigate flight risks autonomously. It was originally created by a team of Israeli engineers to solve problems they experienced while operating commercial and military drones. The system uses integrated sensors to continuously monitor and analyze drone flight patterns and to immediately detect any sign of a critical failure.
When triggered, the onboard computer, SmartAir Pro™, instantly activates the SafeAir system to cut power to the drone and eliminate the risk of injury from propellers. The system autonomously deploys a parachute to bring the drone to the ground in a safe, controlled descent. An audible alarm alerts people on the ground.
Last year, Speedbird Aero received Brazil’s first drone delivery approval from ANAC, the civil aviation authority. The approval came after the company was granted BVLOS certification for its first delivery drone. ANAC regulators assessed the safety management and risk mitigation planning aspects of the company’s operations, which included the ParaZero autonomous parachute system for every drone in the fleet.
“Aerial logistics is a rapidly emerging industry, and ParaZero is at the forefront of drone safety,” ParaZero’s Director of Business Development and Regulation Aaron Gabriel said, according to the release. “Through supporting the safety of Speedbird Aero’s delivery operations, the ParaZero team continues to see our vision of enabling expanded drone operations in urban environments come to life.”
