Schiebel has announced a significant expansion of its capabilities in Abu Dhabi for the development and production of the CAMCOPTER S-300 Unmanned Air System (UAS). This expansion is in response to a substantial contract awarded by the South Korean Navy for the supply of the CAMCOPTER® S-300 UAS, equipped with advanced sensor suites.
The CAMCOPTER S-300 is designed for long-endurance missions and has a heavy-lift capacity, capable of carrying payloads up to 250 kg. Its performance and multi-sensor capabilities make it particularly suitable for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. These include submarine detection, early threat warning of missiles, and resupply missions that require heavy lifting over long distances in complex terrains.
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and market needs, stating, “Having been at the forefront of VTOL UAS development and delivery for the last 20 years, Schiebel continues to listen to the market needs and by adding the S-300 to our product portfolio we are filling the gap for a long-endurance, heavy-lift UAS.” He also noted the strategic importance of the Abu Dhabi location for executing this project, given Schiebel’s successful history in the region.
The Middle East has been a significant market for Schiebel, with the UAE being the launch customer for the CAMCOPTER S-100 in 2005, marking the company’s major entry into the global UAS market. This latest expansion in Abu Dhabi underscores Schiebel’s ongoing commitment to advancing UAS technology and enhancing its product offerings to meet the evolving needs of its clients worldwide.
